OFF YOUR BONNET
Shakespeare North Playhouse
Director
Off Your Bonnet is a theatre piece devised by Mooncup Theatre that uses comedy, clowning, puppetry, physical theatre & dance to follow the journey of three young women stuck together in a tiny flat during the Covid lockdown. Staged in March 2023 in Shakespeare North Playhouse the show had great audience turnout and was met with a fantastic response from the audience.
Inspired by the company member’s experience of lockdown, the story follows characters as they try to find new ways to stay sane & be creative during a time of global turmoil. The piece explores the themes of isolation, feminism and imagination through the parallel between our characters' isolation in the modern day with the world that the Brontë sisters inhabited. There will be laughs, there will be ghosts and Kate Bush inspired choreography, what more do you want? The show is currently in redevelopment and is planning to go on a North West tour in March 2024.
“Hilarious. A beautifully observed and achingly relatable comedy. I laughed, I cried and was deeply moved by the vulnerability of the characters.” - Audience Member
“Mooncup’s latest show Off Your Bonnet is everything they’ve become known for over the past few years- lots of fun, high energy, always welcoming and absolute madness.” - Audience Member
